Questions, answered honestly
Are you a medical provider or an insurance company?
Neither. We are a patient liaison and coordination service. Licensed clinics in Mexico provide your care and are responsible for it. Our membership is a service membership, not insurance and not a discount health plan.
What is the catch?
There are two things to be honest about. Border waits can be long at peak times if a Fast Pass is not available, and complex work (implants, All-on-4) needs more than one visit over several months. Your liaison plans around both.
How does a typical day work?
Most dental patients do it as a day trip. You cross in the morning (walk across at San Ysidro or get picked up by your clinic or liaison), go straight to your appointment, and head home the same afternoon. Many partner clinics can arrange a Medical Fast Pass for the return crossing, which puts you in a dedicated lane and typically turns a long wait into a short one. For a crown or implant you may come back a few days later for the final fitting.
What is the Medical Fast Pass?
A program run by the city of Tijuana that lets patients of registered clinics use a priority lane when driving back into the U.S. Your clinic requests it for your appointment day. It is widely used, but it is issued by the city, so it is not something we can guarantee — your liaison will always tell you whether it is available for your dates.
Do I need a passport?
Yes — a U.S. passport book or passport card (or green card plus passport) to re-enter the United States. If you do not have one, your liaison can help you plan around the processing time.
I don’t speak Spanish. Will that be a problem?
No. Your liaison is bilingual and available by text, phone or WhatsApp the entire time, and our partner clinics have English-speaking doctors or coordinators. Messages between you and the clinic in our app are translated automatically.
How much will I actually save?
Typical Tijuana prices are 50–70% below U.S. prices for crowns, implants, root canals and full-arch work, and 40–70% for surgery. Every procedure page shows both ranges, and you always get an itemized written quote from the clinic before you cross. If the plan changes after your exam, you are told before any change in cost.
What does Puente Health charge?
You can pay a flat liaison fee per trip, or join as a member for a low monthly fee that removes per-trip fees and adds priority scheduling and aftercare check-ins. Clinics may also pay us a disclosed referral fee for patients we bring them. That fee never raises your price, and we tell you exactly what it is.
Can I use my U.S. dental insurance?
Some PPO plans reimburse out-of-network care abroad. Partner clinics can provide an itemized receipt with procedure codes you can submit; your liaison can walk you through it. Nothing is guaranteed by your insurer.
Is it safe to get dental work in Tijuana?
Tijuana has hundreds of dental clinics and many serve thousands of American patients a year with the same implant brands, materials and equipment used in the U.S. The difference is in vetting. We only list clinics whose license (COFEPRIS), dentists’ credentials (cédula profesional) and facilities have been checked, and a bilingual liaison stays on your case so nothing gets lost in translation.
What if something goes wrong after I get home?
Partner clinics provide written warranties on crowns, implants and prosthetics and a free adjustment window. Your liaison checks in after treatment, helps you reach the clinic, and if needed helps you document and escalate a complaint to the clinic and to CONAMED, Mexico’s medical arbitration commission. We also help you find a U.S. provider for routine follow-up when that is easier.
How do you choose and rank clinics?
Scouts visit clinics in person, verify licenses and credentials, check sterilization, equipment, English capability and pricing transparency, and score them. Public reviews and verified patient reviews from our own patients feed into a 0–100 score and an A/B/C tier shown on every listing.
